A. Cat’s have a special gland in the roof of their mouth that allows them to enjoy scents that they collect in their nose and mouth. Catnip acts like a female cat sex hormone, but is effective for both male and female cats. Cats have an extra scent organ called the vomeronasal gland in the roof of their mouth. This special pathway allows scents that are collected in the nose and mouth to be carried to the brain. Catnip helps some cats to relax, show more affection and actual seems to make them happier, while others are more playful and yet others are aggressive or show no effect.
