Pet water fountains have come a long way. What began as a simple bowl with a noisy pump has evolved into ceramic and stainless steel designs, compact cordless models, and smart fountains that can monitor individual drinking habits. The best fountain is not necessarily the most expensive or the most talked about. It is the one that best fits your pet, your home, and your daily routine.
Online research can quickly become overwhelming, with product reviews, comparisons, videos, warnings, and recommendations pointing in completely different directions. Our advice is simple: focus on what best fits your pet rather than chasing the latest trend or dramatic claim.
Look for a fountain that is appropriately sized, made from quality materials, easy to clean, and realistic for you to maintain. Compare products, read a range of reviews, follow the manufacturer’s care instructions, and watch how your pet responds. When health concerns or unusual drinking habits are involved, consult your veterinarian. Our goal is not to convince you that one fountain is best, but to help you confidently choose the one that is right for your pet, your home, and your lifestyle.
Not every pet enjoys a fountain. When possible, borrowing one or choose a retailer with a practical return policy can help you learn what your pet prefers.

Automatic Indoor Pet Water Fountains are ideal when you have easy access to electricity, a location that can handle a little bit of water flow, or you place on a mat to help control the drips and drools. Find the right size, style, and mechanism that best fits your pet’s needs. For pets who enjoy drinking for the faucet, mimic that with a faucet style fountain and for pets that like water that bubbles up, there are options for that as well.
When it comes to hot summer days, multiple pets, or large breed dogs, a high capacity pet water fountain is a great choice. Choose single bowl or multiple bowl to keep your pets so happy. For taller and larger breeds consider a pet water fountain on legs or one that is adjustable to make drinking time more comfortable.
When it comes to indoor/outdoor pet water fountains, we love the beauty that many fountains have to offer, while some are not specifically designed for pets, these offer the perfect spouts, size, and bowl to make grabbing a drink nice and easy.
When gravity is required because electricity is not accessible, here are some great water dispensers that allow for a little movement and refill as you pet takes a drink. This are also a great option if the movement of the water or the sound of the fountain bother your pet.

How Often Should I Clean My Fountain?
Even fountains need regular cleaning. Wash the bowl and removable parts every 2–7 days depending on how many pets are using it and how enthusiastic they are about sharing their water. A clean fountain keeps the water tasting fresh and helps the pump last longer.
Put a reminder on your calendar!
How often should I replace the water?
Fresh water is important, even if the fountain isn’t empty. Replace the water every day if possible. Also, make sure to not allow the pump to run dry to protect the pump and mechanisms. Fresh water smells and tastes so much better to pets.
Change or add water with each feeding to be consistent.
When should I replace filters?
Follow the manufacturers recommendations, but as a guide, carbon filters every 2–4 weeks and foam pre-filters every 1–2 months. If you have multiple pets or pets prone to heavy shedding, change more often. Dirty filters reduce water quality and pump performance.
Always have extra filters on hand to ensure you have one ready to go!
How do I prevent slim, bacteria, and mineral build up?
Changing the water and filters is very important, you can also soak the bowl and parts of your water fountain in vinegar to remove any build up, bacteria or other chemicals. Do not place fountain in direct sunlight as this speeds up the process of bacteria growth.
Keep you pet fountain as clean as possible!
What is the best water to use in my pet fountain?
Filtered water through a Brita or similar system, tap water, or bottled water. Distilled water is NOT recommended.
Pure water is the best with the least amount of chemicals!
