From a pet-obsessed editor’s perch, Anthony Rubio is the reigning king of canine couture, a designer who turns four-legged friends into runway royalty. Trained in women’s wear and inspired by a lifelong love of animals, he translates the drama of haute couture into pieces that fit, move, and sparkle on real dogs. Every collection feels like a love letter to pets and their people: meticulous handwork, rich textures, and silhouettes that honor a pup’s comfort while delivering pure fashion fantasy.
Anthony Rubio’s fashion background is in classic women’s wear: he formally studied fashion design at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and began his career designing women’s apparel in the late 1980s. He later pivoted to pet couture in the early 2000s after rescuing a Chihuahua which led him to reinterpret his training for canine proportions and movement while keeping comfort and safety central. His canine couture has shown at New York Fashion Week (with presentations dating back to 2012) and other major runways, and he’s often referred to as a “master pet couturier” for his custom, hand-finished work.
Known for his pet fashion shows that are simply legendary for the way he captures the star power of every pet he dresses. These are not garments, they are stories. From a rescue turned red-carpet darling, a senior dog basking in the spotlight, or a tiny diva strutting with the confidence of a supermodel. Whether he’s reimagining cultural moments for his Pet Galas or unveiling his original looks at Fashion Week, Rubio treats pets as muses, the people are the accessories, and oh how the audiences respond with the kind of joy only dogs (and the humans who adore them) can spark.
What we love most about Anthony Rubio is the purpose stitched into every seam. Rubio’s work amplifies adoption, celebrates resilience, and reminds us that fashion can lift spirits. As he puts it, “I decided to create my own niche, I wanted to make something people didn’t know they were going to love until they saw it.” That revelation defines his brand: designs that surprise, delight, and make the world feel brighter the moment a pup steps onto the runway.
Oh, to have one of Anthony Rubio’s couture outfits in our pet’s closet! Couture with the most amazing beadwork, shimmers, and attention seeking style. Every piece has its own personality and they cause tails to wag everywhere, and for good reason: they’re crafted with reverence for animals and an unapologetic flair for spectacle. Every piece is custom made or bought from the runway. To order your own, get in touch with the team at Anthony Rubio Designs.
As we crave our pumpkin slice lattes as the fall leaves begin to cover the ground, it is a great reminder how terrific pumpkin is for pets, especially dogs. Pumpkin is a simple, dog-friendly superfood that supports healthy digestion and overall wellness: its soluble fiber helps firm loose stools and relieve occasional constipation, while vitamins A, C, and E plus potassium and iron nourish skin, coat, eyes, and immune health; plain canned or cooked pumpkin, not pie filling, is naturally low-calorie, making it a smart topper for weight-conscious pups, and even the seeds. Serve plain puree, ground or in a recipe. Known for supporting urinary tract health; as a general guideline, a good rule of thumb is 1 teaspoon pumpkin for every 10 pounds of dog body weight, mix into regular meals, and introduce gradually; avoid sugary, spiced products and consult your vet for puppies, pregnant dogs, or pets with chronic conditions.
Pumpkin is good for cat too, but a little goes a long way. Choose plain, cooked pumpkin fresh or canned, but make sure to buy 100% pumpkin, never pie filling. Pumpkin adds gentle fiber and moisture that helps with mild constipation or diarrhea, support hairball control, and offer vitamins A and C with very few calories. As with any new food, start with about ½ – 1 teaspoon mixed into food once daily, introduce slowly to avoid tummy upset, and skip spices, sugars, and flavorings. It is a good idea to check with your vet before making pumpkin a regular add-in.
