Before You Buy
- How will your pet ride? Start by deciding whether your pet will ride in a bicycle basket, carrier, trailer, or specially designed cargo bike, or whether your dog may be suited to running alongside your bicycle. Your pet's size, health, temperament, and comfort should guide your decision.
- Baskets and carriers for smaller pets. Check the manufacturer's weight limits, interior dimensions, mounting system, ventilation, and safety restraints. A carrier designed specifically for pet cycling is preferable to an ordinary basket.
- Bicycle trailers for pets. Trailers can be useful for larger pets, senior dogs, longer outings, or pets who cannot comfortably run alongside a bicycle. Compare weight capacity, interior space, stability, ventilation, weather protection, and ease of entry.
- Pet-friendly bikes and sidecars. Explore cargo bicycles and specialty bike designs made for transporting pets. Consider balance, handling, restraint systems, bike dimensions, and the amount of space your pet needs.
- Harnesses and safety equipment. Choose equipment designed for the activity, including secure harnesses, reflective accessories, visibility lights, and compatible restraints. Check that attachments cannot interfere with bicycle wheels or steering.
- Think about your bicycle, too. Not every basket, trailer, or carrier fits every bicycle. Review mounting requirements, frame and wheel compatibility, weight limits, and manufacturer instructions before purchasing.
- Plan for the entire trip. Portable water bowls, snacks, travel bags, cooling supplies, and weather protection can make an outing more comfortable for you and your pet.
- Read product details carefully. We curate merchandise from a variety of brands and merchants, but we have not personally tested every product. Review specifications, safety instructions, customer feedback, and return policies to make sure a product meets your needs.

- Can any dog go bike riding? Many dogs can enjoy biking with their humans, but not all should run alongside a bicycle. Age, breed, physical condition, joint health, and weather all matter. Ask your veterinarian whether the activity is appropriate, particularly before beginning a running routine.

- Choose routes with your pet in mind. Quieter bike paths, smooth surfaces, manageable distances, and places to stop are often more comfortable than congested streets or rough trails.
